Located in New Cumberland, WV, this racetrack-casino-resort originally started as Waterford Downs, named for the owner’s ancestral home in Waterford, Ireland. Its long construction was further delayed by WWII, but it eventually did open in 1951.
The track was renamed to Mountaineer Park when it changed hands in 1987. It became the first racino in America in 1994, when it first added slot machines to the premises. It expanded in 2007 to include live table games.
